LEARNING LOGS

To create a more open ended home learning activity that gives children the chance to use and extend their learning around the foundation subjects and practice their core basic skills, we provide the children with a weekly Learning Log task.

The Learning Log task will allow each child the opportunity to produce their homework at their level and reflect their interests. It will also allow their creativity and research skills to be developed, as they find varying ways to present their homework.

THE BASICS

  • Each child will receive a kit with crayons or coloured pencils, writing pencils, rubber, sharpener and a learning log book – in a zip file.
  • Each learning log homework to be completed over a two page spread
  • In KS1 a weekly task will be set and stuck in the book.
  • In KS2 it may well be similar to KS1 (where the teacher gives a directed task) but teachers can also provide children with a series of tasks that the child can then choose from, completing an activity of their choice each week
  • Sometimes a choice might include creating a model or something that is in 3D and cannot be put in the book – in this case, children could just bring in the model and be encouraged to use their two pages for any notes or plans for what they have done.

In addition to the Learning Logs, teachers will also provide work, as necessary, to develop key literacy and maths skills, such as: weekly spellings, Higher Frequency Word lists, home reading, phonics, times tables learning etc.

ONLINE LEARNING

We also provide children with log-ins and passwords for 3 online learning platforms, for the children to access in school and at home:
