Reading and Phonics
Children in key stage one and two participate in a half an hour guided reading session everyday. They also have a daily phonics session in KS1 and a spelling, punctuation and grammar session in KS2.
We have a range of books for the children to read including books from a reading scheme and 'real books' by well known authors. All these books have been organised into Book Bands. This allows us to categorise books into levels which then helps to track your child's progress in reading.
Children are encouraged to take home books that have also been organised into the Book Bands. They can change their reading books as often as they like.
Book Band levels:

Within phonics the children in EYFS and KS1 are taught from the Letters and Sounds scheme of work. If children are working beyond these levels they will be taught from the Support for Spelling document
