Hello Summer 2016!
Welcome back to the summer term, we hope you all enjoyed your two weeks off and that you are now ready to carry on learning. Keep checking this page to see the exciting things we get up to in 5/6!
Here's a quick overview of what's being covered currently in 5/6:
Literacy:
5/6C are currently looking at the poetic story - 'The Princess' Blankets'
5/6O and 5/6S are writing non-fiction information texts all about Brazil.
Numeracy:
This half term 5/6C will be learning all about number whilst 5/6O and 5/6S will be learning about shape and geometry.
All of the children will continue to practise their calculation methods during Big Maths lessons.
Did you beat your Big Maths score? Can you get 10/10?
Topic: We will soon be starting our new topic - 'I'm a year 6 pupil, can you get me out of here?'. During this topic we will use the eight points of a compass, four-figure grid references, symbols and key (including the use of Ordnance Survey maps) to build our knowledge of the United Kingdom and the wider world. We will also use fieldwork to observe, measure and record the human and physical features in the local area using a range of methods, including sketch maps, plans and graphs, and digital technologies.
Science:
Year 5: Animals including humans - don't forget to bring in your cutest baby pictures!
Year 6: Animals including humans.
Team 5/6
On Safer Internet Day 5/6O learnt how to be good digital citizens. This included not just keeping ourselves safe online but also helping our friends stay safe. We created cartoon strips to show how we could do this.
This half term 5/6 have been using Sketch-Up, which is a computer aided design program. We started by designing dams and then moved on to water wheels.
