Year 5/6

Our KS2 Team!

Hello Summer 2016!

Welcome back to the summer term, we hope you all enjoyed your two weeks off and that you are now ready to carry on learning. Keep checking this page to see the exciting things we get up to in 5/6!

Here's a quick overview of what's being covered currently in 5/6:

5/6C are currently looking at the poetic story - 'The Princess' Blankets'

5/6O and 5/6S are writing non-fiction information texts all about Brazil.

This half term 5/6C will be learning all about number whilst 5/6O and 5/6S will be learning about shape and geometry.

All of the children will continue to practise their calculation methods during Big Maths lessons.

Did you beat your Big Maths score? Can you get 10/10?

Topic: We will soon be starting our new topic - 'I'm a year 6 pupil, can you get me out of here?'. During this topic we will use the eight points of a compass, four-figure grid references, symbols and key (including the use of Ordnance Survey maps) to build our knowledge of the United Kingdom and the wider world. We will also use fieldwork to observe, measure and record the human and physical features in the local area using a range of methods, including sketch maps, plans and graphs, and digital technologies.

Year 5: Animals including humans - don't forget to bring in your cutest baby pictures!

Year 6: Animals including humans.

Well done to the children who took part in the Quadkids Athletics Championships today, they all did fantastically and represented the school very well. Special mention to Precious who won a gold medal for being the top girl from all the schools who entered.

Sketch - Up

This half term 5/6 have been using Sketch-Up, which is a computer aided design program. We started by designing dams and then moved on to water wheels.

Banksy is Back!

This week 5.6 have been researching the art of Banksy. I challenged them to create a trailer using iMovie for a film about his life.
We took a variety of pictures, cropped and edited them then imported them into iMovie.
iMovie is a free app - Q: Can you make a trailer about another famous persons life during the summer holidays?
