Manchester schools have been asked to participate in a project to co -write a poem in 100 of the languages spoken in Manchester schools. On Friday 11th May at lunchtime, pupils from yr2-6 were invited to come in and have a try at writing their own poems about Manchester in English as well as translating into another language if they could!

The bilingual entries will be posted off on Monday 14th May to enter the school competition. However, Miss Bridge and Miss O'Hara were so impressed with the children's ideas and own poetry lines that they combined them into one long poem about Manchester, made in Moston Fields.

Here it is. I think you will agree the children have done a wonderful job!

 On Wednesday 21st March, we were joined by three Year Six pupils from Bowker Vale and Irk Valley Primary Schools. These were the children that had won the spelling competitions in their own school. They were joined by Moston Fields Year Six champions, Rapheal, Fahidat and Deborah.

After a lovely start to our Spelling Bee with a performance of Where the Wild Things Are from our drama group, the serious competition got underway!

After a hard battle and impressing the Key Stage audience with their amazing spelling skills, Rapheal emerged the overall winner. Moston Fields are so proud of all the children!

The morning continued successfully with our visitors from Bowker Vale and Irk Valley being treated to a visit to the chickens, lunch and being able to spend some time with our Year Sixes at Moston Fields.

The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all and we are looking forward to continuing this link with local schools in a return competition hosted by them for our Year Twos!

Creative Writing Fortnight at Moston Fields

At Moston Fields we have just celebrated Creative Writing Fortnight! From Nursery to Year Six, each class were presented with their very own beautifully wrapped (thanks Mrs Salloway!) copy of the children's picture book classic, Maurice Sendak's Where The Wild Things Are. Across the school, the children have really impressed us by putting their rapidly developing Talk For Writing skills into their own piece of creative writing. 

One lucky child from each class was chosen to attend a VIP Rumpus Lunch on Friday 9th March where they ate Wild Things Cake and snacks and listened to rumpus music!

You will be able to see some of their amazing writing at our gallery on Friday 16th March in the school hall after school. Please come along!

At Moston Fields, we aim to create 21st century learners, who will be successful in their future field of work. To fulfil their potential, pupils need to be able to communicate confidently through writing and speech; they must listen carefully and be able to understand the written word. All members of our school community support the drive to raise standards of literacy by having consistently high expectations in all areas.There are many exciting changes to our Literacy curriculum delivery at Moston Fields this year.

Writing

This year, we began our participation in The Primary Writing Project. Over the next two years, in collaboration with other local schools we will be developing a Talk 4 Writing approach across the while school. We are confident that we will raise our writing outcomes across school.Talk 4 writing helps to:

• Build children’s repertoire of stories and understanding of story structure
• Enable pupils to become more active learners
• Give pupils the tools to become confident and passionate writers.

Handwriting

To support our Talk 4 Writing project in school we are having a big focus in handwriting, concentrating on correct letter formation using lead-outs (flicks!) and lead-ins and eventually using a fully fluent cursive style. We are really proud of children's efforts in their writing so far and have noticed huge improvements since the beginning of term. Have a look at some samples of our progress so far!
