At Moston Fields we have been developing our outdoor area. Part of this has included the development of an outdoor classroom, where Forest School takes place.
We are very thankful to the Players of the People's Postcode Lottery alongside The Lancashire Wildlife Trust who have funded this project and allowed us to train our very own Forest School Leaders here at Moston Fields.
What is Forest School?
Forest School is an inspirational process that offers learners the opportunity to develop confidence and self-esteem through outdoor experiences and play.
During Forest School sessions children will be encouraged to explore and respect the outdoor environment, learn new skills (knot tying, den building, using tools) and learn to take risks in a safe and supported way.
'There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing'
Forest School takes place in all weathers (except in strong winds and storms) therefore it is important that everybody participating is dressed appropriately.
What should I wear for Forest School?
A typical Forest School kit list includes
Long sleeved tops are needed in all weathers to protect your child from the woodland environment
Warm thick socks
Long trousers
Layers for the top of the body
Fleece/jumper
Waterproof coat
Waterproof trousers
Hat, gloves, scarf in cold weather/sunhat in sunny weather
Wellies/other sturdy boots
Old clothes are ideal as they will probably get quite dirty.
This kit list will not only help keep your child dry and comfortable but will also allow them to get the most out of the experience.
