In the summer term, Year 6 would normally attend a transition workshop with Into University to help them prepare for the move to secondary school. As we can't attend this year, the Into staff have kindly produced a pack of activities that you can complete with your child at home. The activities are all posted above and the welcome video is below.

Welcome to Year 6!
We hope that you find all the information you need about life in Year 6 on this page. We will be posting updates about our exciting learning opportunities throughout the year.
Engage: We made and tasted our own nachos. We also tried olives, guacamole, refried beans and lime cordial. Afterwards we had a pinata - a Mexican party tradition!
Develop: We used stories to help us imagine what the Mexican deserts look like, we identified different geographical features and created our own picture maps and made comparisons between the Chihuahuan Desert and the Peak District.
Innovate: We were challenged to design and produce a new range of Mexican foods to be sold in shops. We looked at existing products, designed logos and packaging and then finally produced our own packaging.
Express: We invited our parents and carers in to school to see all the hard work we have done in this project. We also used the skills we have been learning in Literacy to persuade people to buy our products..
Engage Trip: Chill Factore (March 2019)
The year 6 children had a fantastic week with INTO University. After a busy week researching, creating, presenting, writing and visiting Norton Priory Museum, they then spent the day at the Manchester University Campus on Oxford Road where they had a tour, visited lots of local attractions and finished with their own graduation ceremony!
Blood Heart! We started our Spring term with an investigation into the heart...
The children enjoyed using our Virtuali-tee (augmented reality t-shirt) to take a closer look inside our bodies! We observed how the circulatory system worked and travelled down an artery!
Visiting Manchester Art Gallery
On the 30th and 31st October, we visited Manchester Art Gallery. We explored the galleries, making sketches of our favourite pieces and comparing the different styles of art. We loved that there were so many types of artwork and now we can’t wait to start creating our own.
A colourful start to our Gallery Rebels project!
On the first day after half term, we spent the morning creating different types of art to kick start our new project. We made our own marbled paper, created our own colour wheels, observed what happens when different colours mix, thought about how different colours make us feel and made our own graffiti art on the laptops.
Abbey House Museum Trip
When we visited Abbey House Museum in Leeds, we became detectives in a Victorian murder investigation and had fun exploring a Victorian street. It was great fun and helped us learn more about life during the Victorian era.
Engage: What a fabulous start to our project this term ‘The Revolution’ (Bread making, gruel eating and beautiful sewing)
